Date: 2011-07-05 02:28 am (UTC)I think, of all the icons I've made, I've only got 3 with guns in them? And considering the volume of cop shows I watch, I feel like I've done really quite well.
(Also, the "reckless gun usage" trope. SHERLOCK, THAT IS LOADED. GET IT AWAY FROM YOUR HEAD.)
(Also also. Sort of relevant. I think this is why I really quite like Eliot. Because he doesn't do guns. And doesn't kill people. (Well. I just watched 3x15 the other day and almost cried. But not gonna talk about that as you may not have seen that episode yet) Also, I like the part where when he takes guns away from people, the first thing he does is takes the magazine out and makes sure there isn't a bullet in the chamber. Like...I dunno, there's just something about that I quite like.)
I probably found it from your delicious in the first place XD

Date: 2011-07-05 02:44 am (UTC)And ok, yeah, within the framework of a TV show? I get it. But I hate that our TV shows never SHOW the aftermath. That everything is hunky-dory after a quick scene change. Like, ok, maybe John was breaking down a little between the time that the cabbie died and Sherlock was with the orange blankie, along with disposing of evidence and hauling arse out of there. But, like, couldn't there have been more of an acknowledgement? And ok, Sherlock inquired (good on Sherlock, proof that he ain't no sociopath), but really? That's it? No resumption of limp, just for a moment, to show that he's affected? It doesn't have to be a fucking discussion of his feelings. The show has already established that he has a psychosomatic limp. LET'S USE THAT, PEOPLE.
Apparently, I have Feelings about this.
And I'm super impressed that all your icons only have three gun uses, given your/our fandoms.
And yes, right, Sherlock? WTF? That gun is loaded. And I know perfectly well that the hair-trigger is a bit of a myth, but practice some basic gun safety, yeah? Don't point at anything that you aren't willing to destroy. Rule number, like, two or something. I don't remember my rules anymore.
And Eliot, yes, good on him for always checking guns properly. Drives me nuts when people do it wrong on TV or in movies. THERE IS A PROTOCOL, LEARN IT, I KNOW IT, WHY CAN'T DIRECTORS GET IT RIGHT. Eliot is impressive in his violence yet commitment to no guns.
No, haven't seen the third season- never even made it through the second season, no cable, you know how it is, and yes, I use your account, but I think I explained elsewhere.
You might have done, yeah, found that fic from my delicious. Lol.

Date: 2011-07-05 02:52 am (UTC)I agree with your Feelings about this.
Yeah. I do try to actively avoid gun caps. (Of course, I think I've got one in there of Hotch beating Foyet to death, but. That was for the "breaking point" prompt, and thus was situationally appropriate. Again, though, things I try to avoid.)
I honestly don't know anything about guns, at all, though I did read some big long thing on LJ that was somebody's guide to writing people using guns (which, I think I found that on your delicious too)
Yeah, you did explain elsewhere. Let's just say that in that particular episode, circumstances got SO BAD that Eliot actually had to use guns. I really did almost start crying when I saw that, which is possibly a bit of an overreaction, but at the same time, Eliot has clearly been making a choice to NOT KILL PEOPLE despite having knowledge of how to do it in so many different ways. (And also, with this, SHOW SOME AFTEREFFECTS DAMMIT. I want to see more about Eliot dealing with that.)
It's entirely possible. Most of the Sherlock fics I've read are ones I found from your delicious. XD Because for a while I was back-reading the fic comms, but I got distracted.
